It’s heartbreaking that preparing for the High Holidays this year also means preparing for the one-year remembrance of October 7 — a tragedy which is still very much ongoing. We are partnering with several organizations and congregations for three memorial events, one on October 6, one on October 7, and the last one on October 27. Scroll below for details.

Center City October 7 Commemoration

Sunday, Oct. 6 @ 5:00 pm

Meet by The Weitzman Museum (5th and Market Streets)

Society Hill Synagogue is proud to support a Center City-wide commemoration of the events of October 7.
Please join fellow congregants and clergy alongside the Center City Jewish community on Sunday, October 6, at 5:00 pm by the Weitzman Museum. There will be multiple ways to engage to both remember those who were murdered (over 1,200 people) and also show your support for those still held hostage a year later.
In addition, the Weitzman Museum will have a film screening of We Will Dance Again at 3:00 pm before the event. The film is told through the eyes of more than a dozen survivors of the Nova Music Festival, many of whom videotaped their experiences as the massacre unfolded. There will be a special candlelight vigil afterwards as well.
Please come dressed in your favorite blue and white outfits to stand with Israel as we commemorate this dark day.

Join us to honor the victims of the Oct. 7 massacre in Israel, share messages of hope and resilience and unite as a community. Your presence and participation will make a meaningful difference. Advance registration is required by Monday, Oct. 21.
Why Oct. 27?
Israel had declared that the Hamas attack and massacre will be remembered annually on the 24th day of the Hebrew month, Tishrei. In alignment with Israel’s initial remembrance date – which has since been changed – and in observance of Shabbat, we will commemorate this year on Oct. 27.
