Purim, the holiday of the lots, is a celebration of the Jewish Queen Esther saving the Jews from Haman (boo!), the evil vizier of the Persian King Ahashverosh. Here at Society Hill Synagogue, we have a plethora of Purim celebrations for the whole crew!

Purim Carnival

Admission: Free for Society Hill Synagogue Members • $36 per General Public Household
Get excited, get costumed, and get your spots for this year’s Purim Carnival! One of our most popular events for children, the carnival features 18 game booths, a fantastic prize station, and complimentary hamantaschen, sliced fresh fruit, pretzels, coffee, tea, and water.
Games require 1 or 2 tickets to play. Registrants receive 5 free tickets and a bag of hamantaschen per family at check-in. Additional tickets cost $1 each and will be sold at the Carnival (cash and credit card).
Advance registration is required of ALL attendees, and time slots fill up quickly, so don’t miss out!

Get your graggers out and your sparkly costumes on, and get ready to laugh, sing, shout, and dance along with us as we tell, chant, and act out the Purim story! Come in costume!
Kick off the festivities at 5:30 pm with our dinner, hamantaschen bake-off, and Scotch tasting.
Then, at 6:15 pm, settle in to watch the Rock Purimspiel (written by Hazzan Jessi Roemer, brought to life by an intergenerational cast), with verses of Megillah woven into the performance. Don’t miss this opportunity to come together, celebrate, and experience the magic of Purim with our community!

Lunch! Drinks! Dress-up! Dare to be daffy as we dine and delight!
Then it’s drama time with Di Gantse Megille (the whole scroll). We’ll read about Esther in whatever dialect you desire, ‘til we defenestrate Haman in delirium. Don’t dilly-dally — bring your gragger and costume!
