Society Hill Synagogue deeply values social justice work. In the words of Rabbi Abraham Joshua Heschel, we don’t just pray with our hearts, we pray with our feet! Our congregation is a founding member of POWER. With its 150 congregations throughout Philadelphia and across Pennsylvania, POWER offers many ways to get involved in the work of building a better world.

  • Live Free Campaign for Criminal Justice Reform: Organizing people who’ve been involved in the criminal justice system, people of faith, and their allies to advocate for an end to criminal justice practices that disproportionately penalize and incarcerate the poor and people of color.
  • Education Campaign: Organizing public school parents, teachers, people of faith, and their allies to push the Pennsylvania legislature to fully and fairly fund public education across the state.
  • Economic Dignity Campaign: Organizing low-wage workers, people of faith, and their allies to promote living wage policies and workers’ rights to unionize, at both the municipal and state levels.
  • Civic Engagement Campaign: Organizing voters from across central Pennsylvania, Greater Philadelphia, and the Lehigh Valley so that their communities have a voice in government.
  • Climate Justice and Jobs Campaign: Organizing people of faith to promote a just transition to green energy that centers affordability, renewability, fair labor, and health and safety.
  • Geographic Cluster Groups: These groups focus on local neighborhood issues in Philadelphia and the suburbs. The Center City Cluster Group is working with the Save Chinatown Coalition to oppose the construction of the 76ers’ proposed new basketball arena.
