Society Hill Synagogue’s Ann Spak Thal Hebrew School grounds students’ experiences in Jewish text, tradition, and community. Our vibrant school immerses children and adolescents in the rhythms of Jewish life, empowering them to forge their own authentic relationships with Judaism. We aim to help students see the Jewish community as a lifelong source of nourishment and strength while fostering a sense of responsibility.
Our students come together from various backgrounds to pursue a Jewish journey on which they learn about history and modern milestones, roots and traditions, language and literature, and ethics and values. Our dynamic teachers encourage students to express themselves in different ways and to ask questions and seek answers through a variety of tools. Click here to meet our staff.
All students, from Pre-K through Hebrew High School, meet on Saturdays from 9:30 am-12:00 pm (Hebrew High meets from 10:00 am-12:00 pm), and students in 3rd-7th grades also attend classes on Tuesdays from 4:15-6:15 pm.

At the Ann Spak Thal Hebrew School, our students treasure their experience, including:
A Hebrew curriculum that celebrates the language as both ancient and modern, used for religious services and daily conversation. Hebrew classes focus on the liturgy, with time allotted for students to build their modern Hebrew vocabulary and skills.
The study of Midrash and Tanakh through biblical text, music, stories, theater, cooking and baking, games, and art projects. We bring biblical stories to life through challenging questions, thoughtful reflection, and fun activities!
A multi-faceted connection to Israel to build knowledge, critical thinking, and pride.
Field trips to see Jewish performances, museum exhibitions, and participate in organized activities that perpetuate tikkun olam through social action.
Ongoing engagement with our Rabbi and Cantor, who participate regularly in celebrations, commemorations, and discussions. A school closely integrated into the life of the congregation, truly functioning as part of the community.
